New Year's Eve is set to be a big night in with more than seven in ten people (32 million[1] intending to celebrate the start of 2006 with a night at home or at the house of friends or family.
It could be the threat of one of the coldest winters in years, the nightmare of finding transport home, or just the expense of going out that's putting people off venturing out this New Year's Eve. Either way it seems the roar of an open fire is preferable to the roar of a disco with the number of people opting for an evening at home rising by 20 per cent this year.
Of those planning to brave the artic temperatures, predictably, 18-24 year olds are the biggest party animals with 77 per cent planning on hitting a nightclub, party ...cont/
or pub. However, more surprising is the 100,000[2] over 65s who say they are also planning on dancing the night away at a nightclub!
The most intrepid age group are 55-64 year olds with nearly one in ten planning to see in 2006 abroad.
