INSURER SPRINGS INTO ACTION TO HELP FLOOD HIT HOMEOWNERS.

Following the severe weather conditions sweeping many parts of the UK, Lloyds TSB
Insurance has experienced a surge in calls and claims for flood and storm damage. On
Wednesday, (12 October 2005) normal call volumes increased by nearly 15 per cent
and claims for flood and storm damage increased eight fold compared with September
2005.
The insurer has also taken a series of steps to support affected customers in parts of
the Scottish borders, North and West Wales, Cumbria and most recently Birmingham;
. Proactive calls made to Lloyds TSB branches in affected areas to offer help
and assistance to customers where needed.
. Staff on the ground in Carlisle to monitor levels of damage.
. Additional staff on standby to man customer phone lines.
. Same day cash payments available to customers who have experienced serious
losses and require emergency accommodation and/or supplies.
Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, said:

conditions call for swift action on our part and we're working fast to ensure that
customers in affected areas are receiving help and ...cont/
support. As with the January
floods in Carlisle, we are continually monitoring the situation and are ready to take
action whenever necessary."
"With UK homeowners facing the harsh realties of flood damage and with further
news from the Environment Agency that people living in flood risk areas are failing to
protect themselves, it is vital that they take precautionary measures to protect
themselves and their homes."
Lloyds TSB Insurance is offering advice to those affected on how to make a claim:
. Put together an action pack including; insurance policy details, candles, matches,
food and a flask of hot drink.
. Listen to local TV/radio broadcasts and heed advice of emergency services and
the environment agency.
. Check what damage your policy covers.
. Find out whether your policy covers temporary accommodation if your home has
become uninhabitable.
. Telephone your insurer as soon as possible - they will register the claim and
advise on what to do next, if necessary, they will send a loss adjuster to assess the
damage.
. To speed things up always have your policy number to hand when you telephone
your insurer.

electricity or gas, or drink tap water, until the all
clear is given.
. If temporary emergency repairs are necessary, arrange these immediately and keep
receipts, but also let your insurer know as they may wish to inspect the damage
before permanent repairs are carried out.
. If your insurance provider has a 24-hour helpline they will probably be able to
give details of local trades people.
. Don't throw away any damaged items, as your insurer may want to inspect them.
. If sending receipts for your damaged goods to your insurer make sure you keep a
copy for your own records.
