Scientific advances means are pets are living longer – and costing their owners more.
Medical advances in pet healthcare may well be leading to a better quality of life for our furry friends but it is taking its toll on the pockets of their owners. As our pets live longer thanks to drugs and medication they are also costing more. Research collated from insurers More Than reveals that nine out of ten vets say that they can now treat more illnesses than a decade ago.

great expense. As with old age pets are likely to become more vulnerable to ailments such as arthritis, which costs roughly £500 a year to treat, as well as heart problems (£911), diabetes (£544) and respiratory problems (£728). And just over a quarter of pets have suffered from stress or depression according to the survey.
Sophie de Pelet, vetinary adviser for MoreThan Insurance comments on the findings: “Pet insurance is a responsible thing for pet owners to have in order to pay for any necessary treatment that might be needed; if this is an ongoing illness such as diabetes or arthritis it can become quite closely.”
