Traditional summer break

Traditional summer break takes top spot for 25 million holidaymakers. Despite reports that the traditional summer holiday is under threat, it’s still the nation’s holiday of choice according to new Post Office® research, with 25 million people planning to take a two-week summer break this year. The Post Office® Travel Insights survey reveals that the traditional summer break is the most popular type of holiday with 43 per cent of UK holidaymakers this year. Yet more than a third (35 per cent) intend to take two or more holidays this year, meaning many are supplementing it with short breaks and other seasonal holidays. Hugh Stacey, head of travel services at the Post Office® commented: "This year looks set to be a bumper year for travel with over 30 million of us planning to take a holiday - 1.1 million more than 2005.   pressures in the market have forced prices down, which is great news for UK holiday-lovers. "Although the traditional summer break lives on, cheaper prices mean people can take more holidays. So an annual travel insurance policy can result in real financial and time savings and give peace of mind for the whole year." The survey also found that family travel remains popular with 44 per cent planning a family holiday this summer and 74 per cent planning to take at least one holiday in 2006 (compared to a national average of 66 per cent). August remains the most popular month for travel, especially for families - 41 per cent of all families who took a holiday last year did so in August. Short breaks are most popular among singletons with 21 per cent planning to take one this year, compared to just 13 per cent of over 50s. Lower prices and greater accessibility of overseas trips means domestic travel is less popular, with just 30 per cent planning a UK break this

year (compared to 34 per cent in 2005). And Europe remains the UK’s number one holiday destination accounting for 43 per cent of all holidays taken last year. Tailored policies from the Post Office® Offer Price Cuts To reflect the UK’s changing travel needs, Post Office® annual policies can now be tailored to reflect what customers want. Ski and winter sports cover, which was previously part of all annual policies, is now offered as an optional add-on, and customers can also choose to exclude USA, Canada and Caribbean on worldwide policies thus receiving a cheaper rate. All policies continue to benefit from the Post Office®’s Kids Go Free offer. So for many, the cost of an annual travel insurance policy has reduced, by as much as 30%, which means cost savings of up to £50 for those customers.
