Dont Be Green
Dont be green
Don't be green when it comes to your gardening gear.
5th April 2004
With the Easter weekend fast approaching, and many people planning to get out the in the garden, Budget Home Insurance Services is urging homeowners not to join the million people who have already fallen victim to garden thieves.
Gardeners have a tendency to be a little green when it comes to protecting their tools and leisure items," says Simon Jackson, Budget's Product Development Director.
Garden tools and equipment such as lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, power washers, strimmers and watering devices are all relatively high value items that can easily be stolen from garden sheds, greenhouses or the garden itself.

Passing thieves will be in and out of the door in no time. They will be looking for handbags and wallets left near the door, so keep them well out of view.
Encourage the children not to leave their bikes on the front lawn or drive.
If you are outside cleaning the car, don't leave your keys in the ignition. Opportunist thieves will take the keys, and then come back at night to steal the car or enter your property.
Never leave power tools, hedge trimmers or lawn mowers unattended, even if you're only popping into the house for a minute.
Screen any windows in the shed, so equipment is not visible.
Mark valuable equipment with ultraviolet markings.
Install security lights and alarms, where needed, as a deterrent.
Photograph any very valuable gardening items, so that, if stolen, the Police can identify them. |
